About Me

This is my husband Brandon
Who would have thought I would be where I am today: married, two children, teaching, and in graduate school. This road hasn’t been easy but I’ve made it and I intend to continue my journey. I'm currently an aspiring Educational Leader who has hopes of impacting a generation of young boys and girls. I don't want to just educate these students academically, but I want to educate students holistically.  I have a long road ahead of me, but I do believe it's possible.
These are my daughters Alyssa and Mariah

Discussion Four

When the students in the video were praised they didn't give up on the task. The students were more willing to keep trying. Praising a student’s innate ability makes them feel good about achieving things that come easy. If the students never struggles, when they are faced with a difficult situation the students is likely to just give up. However when we praise a student's effort and ensure them they can problem solve, they learn that some struggling can be productive. Productive struggling builds thinkers, and the student will learn that everything won't come easy, but it's still possible. I think the current educational system teaches the students how to take test, but doesn't necessarily teach problem solving strategies. I believe if we give the students more opportunities to experience productive struggle and give them praise and support in the process they will be better thinker.
Discussion Three

PowerPoint is Evil!

I partially agree with this statement. I do believe many presenters have relied on PowerPoint to much during a presentation, causing them to read directly from the screen. As a person sitting in a presentation it can become very boring to sit a listen to someone read. This also allows for less interaction with the audience. I do think if PowerPoint is used to enhance the presentation it can be beneficial. As a classroom teacher I've used PowerPoint presentation with my students and it was very engaging and interactive. With the help of an ActivBoard the students can write on the board to solve problems or answer questions.
Discussion Two

Disruptive Innovation
Disruptive innovation was described as a way to transform a product so more people have access to it. From a business aspect the business will be able to sell more product to more people resulting in making more profits. In education technology is being used more as a means to reach the students and add engagement to the classroom. However, I can see how this technology can become a disruptive innovation.

If we look at education from a business perspective, computers and other technology would allow a single teacher to teach more students by using the Internet. This would be an example of disruptive innovation. The technology would reach more students but it would change school as we know it. There would been a need for less teachers and there wouldn't be a physical school, the students will simple attend school from home.
Discussion One

Who Moved My Cheese?
In the video “Who Moved My Cheese” Sniff and Scurry are two mice who make decision based off instinct. They are very proactive in that they are aware of their surroundings and make preparations for any problems. When a problem did arise, they wasted no time trying to find a solution.  In my opinion Sniff and Scurry are the epitome of an effective administrator. School administrators are responsible for effectively running a school. This mean like Sniff and Scurry, an administrator must be very observant on his/her campus and be ready to hit the ground running when faced with a problem. Also, administrators must not be afraid to make changes or lead the staff in a new direction.

Hem and Haw are two little people who were put in the same position as Sniff and Scurry, however they reacted the exact opposite. Hem and Haw were very complacent. Once faced with a problem, they spent a lot of time whining and complaining instead of finding a solution. They were very afraid to try anything that may help them. They were afraid of the unknown. Unfortunately people like this exist in our schools. It would ideal for those type of people to be self-motivated and realize change can be amazing, like Haw did in the video, but that not reality. As an administrator you would have to reveal your vision to the Hem and Haws on campus and try to get buy-in from them. The teachers are going to need constant support, encouragement, and motivation.
