Discussion Four

When the students in the video were praised they didn't give up on the task. The students were more willing to keep trying. Praising a student’s innate ability makes them feel good about achieving things that come easy. If the students never struggles, when they are faced with a difficult situation the students is likely to just give up. However when we praise a student's effort and ensure them they can problem solve, they learn that some struggling can be productive. Productive struggling builds thinkers, and the student will learn that everything won't come easy, but it's still possible. I think the current educational system teaches the students how to take test, but doesn't necessarily teach problem solving strategies. I believe if we give the students more opportunities to experience productive struggle and give them praise and support in the process they will be better thinker.
